Saddle Stitching

If your booklet or brochure has a low page count, then saddle stitching offers you a practical, cost-effective and robust solution. It also produces an excellent look and feel, so it’s no surprise that this is one of the most popular binding options. Everyday examples of saddle stitching can be seen in supermarket catalogues, football programmes, and magazines, as well as annual reports and product brochures. If your publication needs to sit within a ring binder, then ‘loop stitched’ binding is the one for you.

Screw Binding (Metal or Plastic)

This method is a very modern and creative way to bind pages, thanks to the cool finishes and colours of both the metal and plastic screws used. Screw binding allows the document to open in a fan-like shape (with one screw) making this the perfect choice for swatches and colour charts.

With two screws, the look is contemporary; with no folded pages or covers to worry about. Tougher materials such as plastic can be printed on for ultimate durability, making it a great choice for menus and manuals. Plus, if you need to swap out any of the pages, it’s easy. Just undo the screws.

Section Sewn Binding

Some booklets need that extra bit of durability, such as picture albums, look books and anything with an infinite timeline. Section sewn binding, as the name suggests, uses both sewing and glueing for the ultimate strength to ensure your book stands the test of time. With this option, we recommended the inside pages are printed on 130 gsm or heavier.

Wiro binding

Wiro binding is similar to traditional binder documents, but it offers much better quality. This makes it perfect for books or documents that are used repeatedly, such as school prospectuses, technical handbooks and presentations.

One of the main benefits of Wiro binding is that the pages of the document can be removed or added when required. So when you want to update your document, adding different materials such as a mix of paper, plastic or board is easily done with this type of binding option. There are three types of Wiro binding finishes:

  • Standard: (the whole wire is visible)
  • Half Canadian: (the wire is visible from the back only)
  • Full Wiro: (the wire is not visible from the outside)

Case Binding

We’ve saved the best until last. If you want the absolute foremost of finishes and appearances, then case binding is the definitive process. Super durable and stunning to look at, the inside sections of the book are attached to a board cover first, which is then wrapped in a paper of your choice or fabric. With casebound books, the first and last page (known as endpapers) also wrap the inside covers. This means that these can be in a different material to the text pages, adding an elegant finish to any publication.

PUR Binding

The pages in PUR binding are held into the spine with special glue, so visually, the spine has a square appearance, like a typical novel. Because there are no staples, this type of binding process lifts the quality of your brochure or booklet to another level, creating a very premium look and feel.

PUR (Polyurethane Reactive) is often confused with another type of binding that looks similar, called ‘Perfect Binding.’ There’s one vital difference between the two and that’s the strength of adhesive used. PUR glue is considerably stronger than the glue used in perfect binding, which has a shorter shelf-life. This means there is a chance, even after just a small amount of use, that perfect bound pages will become loose and fall out.

If you’re after a high-quality, durable binding process, then PUR should be the default choice. That’s why we only offer the PUR binding solution.
