‘Have a slice of creativity on us’

The Print, Design & Marketing Awards 2019

The category we’ve been nominated in is ‘Best marketing campaign’ and we are delighted. We don’t like to boast but being able to show-off exactly what we can do for clients – current and future – is always a challenge, particularly when it comes to demonstrating our creative flair.  So, this nomination is brilliant as it means more people get to see what we can do.

The pictures of our campaign collateral published the on the Print, Design and Marketing Award website are good but fail to explain the marketing campaign in detail so let us tell you what we did.

The ‘Have a slice of creativity on us’ campaign is innovative, fun and intelligent – it demonstrates our creativity, versatility and quality and an example of what we can do for you.

So what is it?  It is a bespoke, Print4UK-branded, pizza box which holds a creative 20-page swatch and a £25 pizza voucher, which we deliver to prospective, targeted clients. The tray inside the pizza box, which holds the creative swatch, is imprinted with an image of a pizza.

The swatch sits flush in the tray and is designed to look like a slice of pizza which the user is encouraged to remove and explore.  It provides stunning examples of the range of special effects and substrates we can print on using our HP Indigo 7900 press.

The £25 pizza voucher has been cleverly created to look like a branded gift card and is spot-glued to the lid.  When the QR code on the back is scanned the recipient lands on a personalised Print4UK – “Hello Chloe” for example.  That’s where we let “Chloe” know we’ll be in touch order to deliver the real £25 pizza voucher and, hopefully, use the opportunity to share our ‘Power of Print’ creative pack and showcase what else we can do!

By the way – the ‘pizzas’ are hand delivered so, not wanting to miss a trick, we were even able to be creative in the way we did this. How?

Instead of simply sticking a label onto the box, we attached a personalised replica receipt to the lid with clear tape, mimicking what a delivered pizza looks like.  The ‘receipt’ also has the QR code on it providing another route to log onto our website.

Further attention to detail came in the form of imitation, and very authentic-looking, grease marks printed on the inner tray that the client discovers when removing the creative swatch.  This level of detail not only enhances the overall experience it provides excellent evidence of the inventive thinking at Print4UK.

One of the challenges faced in the design was how to add durability to a product traditionally disposed of in one day – a pizza box.  We wanted to be confident that the boxes could be passed around the agencies’ offices long enough to make an impact without wearing out too quickly and still look like the real thing.

This was achieved by laminating the pizza box on the inside rather than the outside with biodegradable laminate film.  Not only did this improve its longevity it still looked like an authentic pizza box, which was very important to us.

We are really pleased with what has been produced through the collaborative efforts of the committed team at Print4UK. Being recognised by peers in the industry is both genuinely flattering and inspirational, giving us the impetus to go on and find more ways of thinking out of the ‘pizza?’ box.

We wish everyone in the competition luck in all the categories and we will post an update if we win.

The Print, Design & Marketing Awards 2019 final is on 20 June 2019, aboard the Silver Sturgeon, London.
